Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town - Ch5 -The Whirlwind Campaign in Mariposa

Raising money to save the church

Previous Episode

Welcome to Raven's Readings. I'll be reading from Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town, by the Canadian humourist Stephen Leacock. He wrote this in 1912 as an imaginative and ironic portrayal of Mariposa. It's a fictional small town in Canada, modelled after Orillia, Ontario, where he spent many summers. Last reading we learned about the difficulties in raising funds for the local church. Maybe they needed one of those new Whirlwind Campaigns, a campaign type that springs up quickly, and is a whirl of activity.

I do readings twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays, so this story should take about six weeks. If you subscribe to my substack newsletter, you'll get notified of my updates as soon as they are ready. If you enjoy this reading, or have other classics you'd like to hear, leave me a comment.

Remember that you can manage here which sections from my SubStack you'll get emails for - Fiction, Odds and ends, Podcastings, or all.

And finally, here’s a link to my readings last year of A Christmas Carol, by Dickens.
