Winnie the Pooh - #1-In Which We Are Introduced to Winnie-the Pooh

Pooh tries to get some honey

Welcome to Raven's Readings. Today I'm reading from Winnie the Pooh, by A. A. Milne. Winnie-the-Pooh first appeared by name in a children's story commissioned by London's Evening News for Christmas Eve 1925. The character is inspired by a stuffed toy that Milne had bought for his son Christopher Robin in Harrods department store, and a bear they had viewed at London Zoo. The stories are set in Hundred Acre Wood, which was inspired by Five Hundred Acre Wood in Ashdown Forest in East Sussex—situated 30 miles (48 km) south of London—where the Londoner Milne's country home was located.

I like writing to a variety of challenges, and have done over a hundred of these so far. You can find all my short stories via my website .

If you subscribe to my newsletter, you'll get the next installments as soon as they are ready. If you enjoy this reading, and would like more of my stories or maybe some of the classics, leave me a comment.

Just a reminder, I sent out a little survey recently asking what you’d like to hear, please fill it out if you haven’t already, as we’ll be starting a new series next week - maybe short stories, maybe another novel - let me know.

Please choose some stories

And remember that you can manage here which sections from my SubStack you'll get emails for - Fiction, Odds and ends, Podcastings, or all.
